FISH CULTURE OPERATIONS MANAGER

The Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department is currently recruiting for a Fish Culture Operations Manager to oversee the fish culture program and five state hatcheries in Vermont. This is a full-time permanent position, and will be located in the Central Office, currently in Waitsfield, VT.

Responsibilities: This is the lead position for fish culture in the State of Vermont. This position coordinates the operations and production of five State of Vermont fish culture stations focused on coldwater and coolwater fish with four species of trout, landlocked Atlantic salmon and walleye. Administrative duties include section budgeting, personnel supervision and evaluation; program coordination; and development of state and department policies. Develop capital appropriation requests for facility support and upgrades. Oversee and implement fish importation and fish health laws. Collaborate with fish culture section staff, fish health pathologists, other states and the federal government. Prepare written correspondence and reports. Work collaboratively with state fisheries biologists to integrate fish culture programs with resource management goals and objectives. Work is performed under the general direction of the Fisheries Division Director.

Preference will be given to applicants with experience in fish culture, fish health, budgeting, personnel supervision, and management of large programs

Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's in fish culture, fisheries science or a related field.

Experience: Three years technical/professional experience in a formal fisheries program, with at least one year professional experience in fish culture and fish pathology.

Note: Graduate work in fisheries science with emphasis on aqua-culture or fish culture may be substituted for experience on a semester for six months basis.
Starting Salary: $26.42 per hour (Pay Grade 28), plus benefits.
