For nearly four decades and during his entire tenure as a Fisheries Biologist with the IDNR, Stu Shipman has served the American Fisheries Society with zeal, dedication, honor and distinction. His exemplary record in providing leadership in a number of roles is unmatched and un-paralleled in the Indiana Chapter and rivals the finest efforts within the North Central Division. Moreover, Stu has additionally contributed to the parent society in several key areas.
This nomination is not simply for a single outstanding service effort, although Stu has many, but rather, a long, historic and continuous list of accomplishments. These include, but are not limited to the following: Indiana Chapter President Indiana Chapter Resolutions Chair North Central Division President North Central Division President-Elect North Central Division Past President North Central Division Representative to Parent Society Nominations Committee North Central Division Governing Board Committee Chair North Central Division Distinguished Service Awards Committee North Central Division Continuing Education Chair North Central Division Plenary and Fisheries Paper Chair, 2004 Midwest North Central Division Fisheries Paper Chair, 1994 Midwest North Central Division Time and Place Committee Computer Users Section (now Fisheries Information and Technology Section) President Computer Users Section Secretary and Treasurer     Stu has accomplished much of this using his own funds due to chronically under-funded IDNR travel budgets, as well as, his own personal time. This dedication to the profession is often seen at the Indiana Chapter meetings where Stu is always found, spring and fall, providing commentary, guidance and leadership generated from his extensive knowledge of and experience with AFS.     We can think of no one more deserving and no better time than now to recognize the contributions Stu has made in serving, supporting, promoting, and advancing fisheries and the American Fisheries Society in Indiana. Thus, we wholly and enthusiastically nominate Stuart Shipman for the Indiana Chapter’s Excellence in Fisheries Science Award for 2010. |
